In 1995, Mariusz, aged 5, was knocked down by a car. He suffered contusion to one brain hemisphere and, as a result, hydrocephalus and epilepsy, which required long neurological and orthopaedic treatment, including surgeries. At the moment Mariusz cannot walk and his speech is severely impaired. As a result of a surgery his health improved but constant care and rehabilitation are required to make the positive effects last. The required further treatment involve 4-6 rehabilitation periods a year. The cost of one such period is at least 3500 zł. Unfortunately, Mariusz's single mother cannot afford to pay for it.
