In 1989 as a 13-year-old Joasia was knocked down by a car sustaining serious injuries. The investigation was dismissed and the girl as a result of the accident became disabled  and completely dependent on others. For many years she struggled with the consequences of  brain and brain stem injury,paresis in all four limb connected with pyramidal tract, motoric aphasia as well as many infections. As a result nowadays Joasia, an adult woman, can live a moderately stabilised life. However, she she still requires constant care and help and problems with a sense of balance and speech organ means that she still has to be treated in specialised medical and rehabilitation centres. At the moment a 14-day stay in such a centre with a caregiver costs over 3,500zł. which is more than the overall monthly income of Joasia's family.
